Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that health care workers with direct exposure to body fluids potentially contaminated with HBV/HIV were not provided with and required to attend HBV/HIV and "universal precautions" training and education programs: a) Establishment: All resident physicians exposed to blood and other body fludis did not receive HBV/HIV and "universal percautions" training. Abatement Note: Feasible abatement mehtods for reducing these hazards shall include as a minimum: 1) Training on precautionary measures, epidemiology, modes of transmission and prevention of HBV/HIV infection; 2) Instruction in the possible risks to the fetus from HBV/HIV and other associated infectious agents.
