General-duty citation text
Section 17(a) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 and Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Hazardous conditions of bar joist failure due to no bridging installed and concentrated overloading of bar joist with bundle of decking, exposing employees to hazards of falling from structure and or being struck by falling steel at west end of building. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard is to install bridging before putting loads on the joists and to adequately distribute concentrated loads so that the carrying capacity of any bar joist is not exceeded.
