Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that the hoistway door of the existing elevator could remain open while the elevator car (hand type elevator) was in motion: a) 2nd - 5th Floors of the Jobsite - employees were exposed to a crushing injury hazard that was created between the elevator shaft walls and the hoist, platform, 8/12/85 A feasible and useful means of abatement would be to modify the elevator so that it could not be moved unless the door of the elevator was closed
