What this inspection record means

OSHA opens inspections for many reasons: routine scheduling under a national or local emphasis program, an employee complaint or referral, or a follow-up after a reported injury. Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to:
a) Fire and explosion - south side elevator, rail dump, 19 feet x 4 feet
the hazard of dust explosion created by tramp metal entering the
grain flow system through the unloading grates.
One feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is the
installation of rebar screen or grating with approximately two and one-
half inch (2-1/2) maximum openings over the rail dump pit. Other method
would be in installation of permanent magnets, approved electro magnets
or specific gravity type separators at the rail dump.
