General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by, caught between or run over by automobiles rolling uncontrollably forward or backward down 24 inch long steel ramps from flat platforms 5 1/2 inches above the floor while the employees were installing air conditioner components in the front engine compartments and under the passenger compartment dash boards. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is the installation of wheel chocks or stops at either side of the ramp platform mechanically fixed except when intentionally removed or retracted while the automobiles are rolled purposely on or off the platforms under the control of an operator.
