Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing injuries or death while: In the Service Shop, four automobile lifts were being used with faulty or broken lift safety lock devices and employees were exposed to working under automobiles on the raised lifts. One feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazard, among other methods, is to restore all safety locks to proper operating conditions and to institute a program of regular inspecting, maintenance and employee training to ensure that any damage or defects are immediately corrected.
