General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) On or about November 13, 1985, employee(s) were exposed to the hazard of falling crane components and/or falling parts in that the 5 Ton Robbins and Meyers underhung Crane No. 35, Serial No. 40588 RTI in the East bay was used beyond its rated capacity by side pulling the butter unwinder shop order No. 882-389 which weighed approximately 20,000 pounds as it was being lifted on one side and dragged into position with the crane. Feasible and useful methods of correcting thishazard include, but are not limited to: 1) Using a mobile crane of ample capacity. 2) Installing a larger capacity crane.
