NYSLLSection 27-a(3)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish to each of its employees, employment, and a place of employment which is free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to its employees and which will provide reasonable and adequate protection to the lives, safety, or health of its employees: a) Onondaga Co. Forensic Science Center. Employees of this facility were potentially exposed to infection from communicable diseases, including but not limited to Tuberculosis, by the improper functioning of a ventilation system designed to prevent such exposure. Specifically, the autopsy suite area was not maintained under negative pressure as intended by its design. Feasible and useful abatement methods for reducing this hazard include: 1) proper installation, testing and balancing of the ventilation systems to achieve the intended design operation. 2) installation of equipment to continuously monitor the differential pressure between the autopsy suite area and other adjacent areas of the building. This equipment should be located and designed to give readily available and unambiguous information to personel in the area as to the status of the negative pressure.
