Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish employment
and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause
death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed
to
fire and explosion hazards:
NEW HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT JOB SITE:  AN OBSOLETE FUEL TANK CAUGHT FIRE AND
EXPLODED WHEN IT WAS CUT WITH AN OXY-ACETYLENE TORCH
AMONG OTHER METHODS TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD, ONE FEASIBLE AN ACCEPTABLE
ABATEMENT METHOD IS TO CLEAN AND/OR PURGE THE TANK IN ACCORDANCE WITH
NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION CODE NFPA 327 OR AMERICAN PETROLEUM
INSTITUTE (API) CODE 1604 BEFORE CUTTING IT.TING
