Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being caught in the point of operation on the Hugold Lew pneumatic presses in the event of accidental activation of the foot operated tripping controls. (a) Small Air Press Dept.: Six Hugold Lew air presses had unguarded foot pedals. ABATEMENT NOTE: ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO PROVIDE FOOT PEDAL GUARDS TO PREVENT UNINTENTIONAL ACTIVATION, AS REQUIRED BY AMERICAN NATIONAL STANDARD B11.4, SECTION 4.3.11. "ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION IS REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM"
