Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall from an aerial lift basket without the benefit of wearing a body belt with lanyard attached to the boom or basket: a)Worksite - One employee was observed working from a JLG Lift Model 600S boom supported elevating work platform raised approximately 10 feet in the air without use of a fall protection belt/harnes or lanyard. On or about 05/21/99. Abatement Notes: Among other methods,one feasible method to reduce the hazard is to: 1.Follow ANSI/SIA A92.5-1992 - Boom Supported Elevating Work Platforms, section 8.8 states:" Ensure all personnel in the platform are wearing fall protection devices and other safety gear as required at all times", and 2.Train the employees in the proper procedures while operating boom supported platforms, such as, but not limited to, the wearing of a safety belt with lanyard. ABATEMENT VERIFICATION IS NOT REQUIRED AS OUTLINED IN PART 29 CFR 1903.19D
