Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Fall hazards and crushing hazards while operating a manual manlift due to a lack of fall protection on the manlift in the Honsey Feed & Grain Elevator. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install guardrails on the manlift car. (b) Crushing hazards while working near the elevator manlift due to the lack of a guardrail and gate system around the perimeter base of the manlift. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install a guardrail system with a gate around the base of the manlift.
