Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Employees were exposed to a potential fall hazard while working on top of rail cars during loading operations. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install some type of fall protection to protect employees from a fall. Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Employees were exposed to a crushing hazard while working around the base of the electric manlift and the manually operated manlift in the soybean house due to the lack of a guardrail around the base of each manlift. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install guardrails around the base of each manlift. (b) Employees were exposed to a potential fall hazard while operating the manually operated manlift in the soybean house due to the lack of an enclosure on the manlift platform. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install an enclosure on the manlift car. (c) Employees were exposed to a potential fall while operating the electric manlift in the main elevator due to the lack of an interlocking relay to prevent the door from opening while away from the landing. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install the proper interlocking relays. (d) Employees were exposed to a hazard while on the top floor due to the inoperable switch adjacent to the passenger elevator which did not allow the elevator to be sent down. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to replace the inoperable switch.
