employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees:
(a) On or about 3/16/2000, the employer did not provide adequate means of
protection
for employees who were exposed to overhead hazards while engaged in
hoisting
operations in the sticking area of the slaughter house located in Minot,
ND.
Among other methods, some feasible and acceptable  means of abatement
would be to place an
overhead barrier guard to prevent the "J" hook and hoisted hogs from
striking employees and
to disconnect the "automatic down" function on the hoist controls to
eliminate and/or reduce the
swing factor of the "J" hook.
