Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to:
the hazard of hair or loose fitting clothing or jewelry being caught in
brush rollers on a
conveyor causing injury to the employee. One feasible means of abatement
would be:
(a) Provide warning signs in areas where fixed guards would
render the conveyor unusable in accordance with ANSI Standard
B20.1-2000, Section 5.9.1.3.
(b) Provide additional emergency stop buttons, pull cords, limit
switches or other emergency stop devices in accordance with ANSI
Standard B20.1-2000, Section 5.11.2(c).
(c) Provide training in the potential hazard of entanglement in
conveyors caused by items such as long hair, loose clothing, and
jewelry in accordance with ANSI Standard B20.1-2000, Section
5.12(i).
