Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to finger amputations and severe lacerations from contact with revolving saw blades: At the jobsite - On or about January 5, 2000, an employee lacerated three fingers while operating the double end tenoner. The employee was attempting to realign the wood when she came into contact with a revolving saw blade. The employee had been operating the saw for approximately thirty minutes before the accident occurred. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to provide machine operators with a training program that explains and demonstrates safe operating procedures and evaluates employees performance.
