General-duty citation text
Section 5 (a)(1) of the occupational safety and health act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: A power driven threading machine with an unguarded rotating pipe that could catch clothing or extremities while making the operator helpless to shut power off. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be installing a momentary contact device as stated in the American National Standard Institute for pipe tools,(ANSI) B208-1982 paragraph 4.4. Employees were operating a power driven threading machine without a momentary contact device, in the hallway outside of the boiler room.r
