Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to possible fall hazards and/or crushing hazards: a.Water Tower, VA Hospital, Manchester, NH - An employee was exposed to falling and/or crushing hazards while being hoisted by the truck mounted winch. The employee was hoisted, with a load, from the ground level up to an elevated walkway of the water tower approximately 180' above the ground. ABATEMENT NOTE: To lift personnel with a hoist, a hoist designed, constructed, and rated for such use must be used.
