Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to the hazard of fire and explosion:
a.6/5/97 -Clear Solutions- Employees were not protected from the hazards
of fire
and explosion resulting from ignition of the contents of the dust
collection units
and the subsequent flame and pressure front that would be transmitted
through the
return air ducts into the plant.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement would
be to comply with
the requirements of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 69 -
Explosion Prevention
Systems, 650 - Pneumatic Conveying Systems for Handling Combustible
Materials, 664 -
Prevention of Fire and Explosions in Wood Processing and Woodworking
Facilities,
and 654 -
Prevention of Fire and Dust Explosions from the Manufacturing,
Processing,and Handling of
Combustible Particulate Solids.
