Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being crushed during an unexpected start-up or movement of equipment and/or its components: a.Caterpillar RM-350B - Employees changing the teeth in the drum were not adequately protected from potential energy sources, such as the stored energy in the raised drum cover. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement would be to follow the steps outlined by the manufacturer, as outlined in the placard affixed to the side of the unit. (Abatement certification is not required.)ion
