Section 5)a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a struck by hazard: a.Inside Shop Area. The employer did not ensure that the hook and other similar attachments to the 1/2 ton overhead hoist that was being used to transport automobile blocks/heads to numerous equipment in the Shop Area was working properly, in that the safety latch to the hook was defective, on or about 3/08/02. ANSI Standards ASA B30.2, the safety code for cranes, derricks, and hoists, which required that the hoist be frequently and carefully examined prior to starting the hoist. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is replacement of the safety latch.
