General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to head injuries and crushing injuries as the result of working under or around an elevated vehicle on a damaged automotive lift as determined on or about 10/5/01. The damage to the lift was caused by using the lift in a manner other than its intended use and resulted in a deformed swing arm/carriage assembly. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to tag the lift out of service and instruct employees not to use it.
