Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of crushing injuries associated with the rollover of a lift trucks without the use of an operator restraint system: (a)Warehouse Area - The employer allowed Route Truck Loaders to operate fork lift trucks for up to five minutes at a time without using the installed seatbelts as observed on or about June 28, 2002. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard are: 1. to follow ASME B56.1-1993 Safety Standard for Low and High Lift Trucks and require the usage of an operator restraint system at all times. 2. to follow the manufacturers operating manual and wear the provided seat belts at all times when operating the lift trucks.ng
