The Comau Marriage lifts were subject to screw lift failure. Failure of
one screw lift created a
hazard of tilting the lift where drive train components and/or the lifting
plate could fall and
strike employees. The Comau Marriage lifts were used to raise the engine
drive train
components from the floor to the overhead cars, at the plant in Department
25.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is
to repair and/or replace faulty lift components, and connect pairs of
screw lift together to ensure
level operations.
