Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: WORKERS WERE EXPOSED TO INADVERTENT MOVEMENT OF IMPROPERLY RIGGED LOADS IN THE FORM OF MOLDS OF VARIOUS TONNAGE BEING CARRIED BY A 30-TON OVERHEAD CRANE AND CONNECTED BY MEANS OF 2-1"-50FT WIRE ROPE SLINGS RUN OVER THEIR LENGTH ON THE NON-SAFETY LATCHED CROSBY LOAD HOIST HOOK. ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD OF ABATEMENT WOULD BE TO ATTACH ONE SET OF EYES OF PROPERLY SELECTED SLINGS TO THE LIFTING PINS AND THE OTHER SET OF EYES TO THE SAFETY LATCHED LOAD HOOK AND FOLLOW ACCEPTED TIPPING METHODS PRESCRIBED BY STANDARD RIGGING PROCEDURES.

ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD OF ABATEMENT WOULD BE TO PREVENT WORKERS FROM ENTERING THE CONTROLLED LIFTING AREAS OF THE CRANE BY BARRICADES AND OPERATOR SUPERVISION IN THE FORM OF ENFORCEMENT OF ESTABLISHED LIFTING PROCEDURES.
