Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of having equipment fall on them during rigging operations. One feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to follow proper rigging procedures to insure the stability of the equipment being moved: A) LOCATION: BULK MAIL CENTER, PENTHOUSE AREA EMPLOYEES INVOLVED IN THE INSTALLATION OF LARGE ELECTRICAL CABINETS WEIGHING IN EXCESS OF 1000 POUNDS, WERE MOVING ONE OF THESE CABINETS WITHOUT PROPERLY SECURING IT, CREATING A HAZARD TO THOSE INVOLVED IN THE OPERATION. AN EMPLOYEE WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED WHEN A UNIT TIPPED OVER WHILE THEY WERE ATTEMPTING TO TRANSFER THE CABINET ONTO A CONCRETE PAD, TRAPPING HIM UNDERNEATH IT.
