Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a)On or about April 22, 1997, Jobsite Building Bay D/E between column 5/6. Employees were exposed to serious injury or death due to a fall of up to 22 feet 9 inches from unsecured steel joists. One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to field weld one end of the joist as stipulated by ANSI a10.13-1989 Section 11.1.11 and by the Steel Joist Institute Standard Specifications for Open Web Steel Joists, K Series, Section 6 (a) (1).
