Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a.The employer did not inspect the critical components of a hoist such as hooks, controls, limit stops, chains, suspension members, brakes, load and idler sprockets and supporting structure or trolley which collectively lift loads. Among other methods, a feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to comply with the safe operating procedures and inspection requirements recommended by the manufacturer and the ASME/ANSI B30.16 such as, but not limited to: The company can use the ASME/ANSI the American Society of Mechanical Engineers/ American National Standards Institute ASME B30.16-1993 (Overhead Hoist (Underhung)), but will have to assure that a qualified person perform the inspections, maintains the upkeep of hoists; and trains the operators to perform daily service checks. Or contact a local crane/hoist company to perform inspections and maintain proper upkeep Abatement certification and documentation are required.tion
