Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to potential hazards of fire and/or explosions due to the woodworking dust collection system not being designed, constructed, and maintained according to established safety and health standards. (a) Location - Wood Shop: On or about 10/30/97, employees working in areas served by the wood dust collection system were exposed to fire and/or explosion hazards due to the design and construction of the system. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to design, construct, and maintain the dust collection system according to established safety and health standards. Abatement Note: See NFPA Standard 664 "Prevention of Fires and Explosions in Wood Processing and Woodworking Facilities" for guidelines.
