Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to flash fire: (a) Location - Die Casting Area: On or about 6/14/99, oils from remelted scrap that had built up in the ventilation system over the zinc tank flashed over exposing employees to the flame that flashed out around the perimeter of the tank between the tank and the hood. Among other means, one feasible means of abatement would be to send oil contaminated scrap to an outside smelter who has processes in place to safety remelt the scrap.
