General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Employees had used a personnel platform lifted by a forklift which exposed maintenance personnel to a recognized fall hazard. The employer permitted employees to use a personnel platform lift that by design allowed employees exposure to a recognized fall hazard of more than four feet. (The guardrail to the platform was approximately 22 inches and should have been a minimum of 36 inches with a midrail and no unprotected sides.) Among other methods, feasible and acceptable means of abatement to correct this hazard include but are not limited to: a) Providing a personnel platform lift designed according to the ANSI B56.1-1993, REF: 4.17 and 7.35. b) Provide an areolift for maintenance workers. c) Provide a mobile scissor-lift scaffolding.
