General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: The hazard of being struck by trailers that are being pushed down the assembly line by employees which do not have a means of warning employees that may be working, standing or walking past the front of the trailers. Among other methods a feasible and acceptable abatement method is to : 1) Install an audible alarm that can be turned on when trailers are to be moved and train employees on what the audible alarm means; 2) Install a visible alarm such as a flashing light that can be turned on when employees are moving trailers and train employees what the visible alarm means; 3) Instruct employees pushing trailers to have at least one employee stand in front of the trailer to warn any employees in the area of the moving trailer.
