Section 5(a)(1): of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: the hazard of amputation and crush injuries to the hands and fingers while operating the Wisconsin Press Brake in the Steel Fabrication Department. Press Brake operators were unfamiliar with the operation, safeguards, and safety devices which could be used to safeguard employees while operating the Wisconsin Press Brake: a) Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is: Train employee and supervisors in the safe operation of machinery including the function and operation of all press controls, and the function, operation, and limitations, of any safeguards used to protect employees.
