Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of struck by wire rope or falling with an overturned crane. a)East Side, Link Belt Crane. Wire rope clip was attached to live rope and dead end at the wedge socket. b) East side, Link Belt Crane. Individual outriggers were sinking in the gravel and did not provide firm footing. Feasible methods of abatement include: 1. Comply with American National Standards Institute (ANSI) B30.5 for Mobile and Locomotive Trains Section 5-1.7.3 and attach wire rope clips used in conjuction with wedge sockets to the unloaded dead end of the rope only. 2. Comply with American National Standards Institute (ANSI) B30.5 for Mobile and Locomotive Trains Section 5-3.4.6 and provide level footing by the use of timbers, cribbing, or other structural members to distribute the load so as not to exceed the allowable bearing capacity of the underlying material.
