General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by structural steel beams. Three steel beams were lifted in "Christmas tree" style. A method was not used to keep the upper beams rotating and tipping. Among feasible means of abatement would be to use a spreader connected to the bridal and securing the multiple steel beams with their own separate slings or raising only one beam at a time.
