Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being crushed by material hoist. a)Material hoist(HOD hoist) on site: Employees were exposed to being crushed between the moving hoist and hoist shaft while working at the shaft edge while the hoist was operating, on or about June 26, 1998. One feasible method of abatement would be to stop the hoist from operating when workers need to work in or near the shaft. This feasible means of abatement is referenced in ANSI A10.5- 1992.
