Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by falling parts of equipment and machinery such as but not limited to conveyor systems. a)Versa Conveyor System, On or about 4/12/99: Employee was struck by a falling conveyor that had not been adequately welded and connected to a baler. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to: 1)provide a mechanical (bolted connection) between equipment. 2)Follow the requirements of the American Welding Society as set forth in ANSI/AWS D14.4-97. Abatement certification must be submitted for this item.
