Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of uncovered hot pipes carrying steam for servicing machinery: a) Press Area - Steam pipes, elbows and vacuum lines that service the presses were not guarded or covered with heat-insulating material(s), on or about 1/14/97. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to maintain all pipes carrying steam with a covering of heat-insulating material or be otherwise properly guarded when exposed to contact and located within seven feet of the floor or working platform.
