P.L. 91-596 Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard(s) of being struck or crushed by a falling form traveler; being struck by the cable system or the hoisting system components due to a hoisting system failure. A) Sidney Lanier Bridge project - Jacks designed for stressing were being used for hoisting a form traveler, on or about 6/24/99. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard is to use equipment that is manufactured or designed for this type of lifting purpose.
