Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) The dead end of the holding line on the crane barge Otter, involved in pile driving operations on the Umpqua River in Reedsport, Oregon, has not been secured to prevent the line from dislodging from the wedge socket. One feasible and economical method of abatement would be to clip a short piece of wire rope to the dead end or install a piggy back wire rope clip which effectively secures the dead and live ends of the rope together.ly
