Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of contact with energized high voltage electric lines when performing drilling operations in close proximity to 7.2 KV overhead conductors. a)Job site; The employer had not given notice to the Utilities Protection Center that work was to be conducted within 10 feet of the 7.2 KV high voltage lines. This is required by the " HIGH VOLTAGE SAFETY ACT:O.C.G.A.46-3-30 et seq.". Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to call the Utilities Protection Center at least 72 hours ( excluding weekends and holidays ) prior to commencing any work or activity to be done within 10 feet of high voltage electric lines.
