Section 5(a)(1) of Public Law 91-596, the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to: the hazard of exploding PVC pipe being used to transport compressed air above ground and was not enclosed in shatterproof casing. (a)Maintenance shop, Coastal Cargo Company, Inc. - PVC pipe was being used to transport compressed air at or above 100 PSI. Pipe was not buried underground. Pipe was not enclosed in a shatterproof casing. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to replace the PVC pipe with black iron or galvanized iron pipe.
