Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by falling loads and/or a collapsing boom of the vehicle mounted hydraulic crane. a)1 Hannibal Street, Yard: Employees worked on and in proximity to a hydraulic crane that had not been inspected for defects and that did not have a rated load capacity chart available, on or about 8/27/97. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to: 1.Follow ANSI B30.5 (Vehicle Mounted Cranes) Chapter 5-2 guidelines that require periodic inspections of the cranes to ensure that the crane is in safe operating condition. 2.Obtain and post the rated load capacity for the crane.ty
