Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by or caught between the components of the lift assembly and/or the vehicle being serviced: a) Hydraulic Lift Bay: The automatic mechanical safety devices of the No. 9 Gilbarco Single Post Hydraulic Automobile lift, were not tightened properly as required by ANSI B153.1- 1990 Sec 4.1.11. Observed on or about 10/15/97. b) Electrical Lift Bay: The safety lugs of the No. 7 Bennil Electric Automobile Lift (Mod GPO), were not operating automatically as required by ANSI B153.1-1990 Sec 4.3.1.5. Observed on or about 10/15/97. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct these hazards is to ensure that periodic inspection and servicing of the Hydraulic and Electric Automobile Lifts is routinely performed.
