Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards. a) Hazemag 300 TPH Rubble Crushing Plant - The return conveyor was not provided with an emergency stopping device in the area where a laborer ("Picker"), who removed debris from the moving conveyor, was stationed. On or about 7/11/97. One feasible and acceptable abatement method for correcting this hazard is: 1) providing permanently installed pull cords, or 2) providing similar stop controllers at points where employees are normally stationed, as recommended by ASME/ANSI B20.1-1990, Section 6.1.2. ABATEMENT NOTE: In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19 Abatement Verification, the employer will provide abatement certification to the Area Director within 13 calendar days of the final abatement date for this violation. The employer must provide written and/or photographic evidence of the emergency stopping device installed on the return conveyor.
