Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to the hazard of contacting a rotating saw blade:
a)  Cutting Area of Production Floor:  Employee was exposed to a rotating
saw blade while
reaching over the revolving blade to perform a "Plunge cut", where by the
material is lowered
on the turning blade.
Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct
this hazard are:
1.The total prohibition of making that specific type of cut utilizing a
table saw be
implemented and enforced..
2.Should that type of cut be needed for a specific application, then the
use of alternative
means such as a jig saw or a router shall be utilized.
ABATEMENT VERIFICATION:  In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c)(1):
Abatement
Verification is required within 10 calendar days from the final abatement
date on this
citation.  The employer must submit documentation such as photographs,
invoices, etc., as
to the abatement of each citation to the Area Director at the address
indicated.
