Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by hazards: (a)Fort Knox Barracks Project - Building 2830: An employee operating a forklift dismounted the truck and traveled approximately 60 feet leaving it running and unattended. ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE MEANS OF ABATEMENT TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO IMPLEMENT AND ENFORCE A POLICY FOLLOWING ANSI B56.1-1969 THAT EMPLOYEES ARE REQUIRED TO RENDER THE FORKLIFT INOPERATIVE WHILE UNATTENDED.
