Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being caught by rotating parts: On or about 06/02/98 Location: 3rd floor, 746 Mamaroneck Ave. Mamaroneck, NY a) A Ridge 500A pipe threading machine was not provided with a effective means to shut off the power other than the motor control switch located on the frame of the machine. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THE HAZARD IS: To install a momentary contact device and follow the Ridge Tool Company's "Important Footswitch Policy" described in a letter to all Ridge Distributors dated October 26, 1987 and in the letter dated February 2, 1993 to all Authorized Service Centers. NOTE: The employer is required to submit abatement certification for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19.
