Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of electrical shock, burn, or electrocution, where exposure to the potential use of ungrounded equipment or appliances in the presence of water occurred. The following conditions contributed to the existence of these hazards: (a)M/V Omnisea, boiler room - The electrical outlet above the sink at this location was not protected by a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) at either the outlet or the electrical panel. (b)M/V Omnisea, women's bathroom (state room deck) - The electrical outlet directly above the sinks at this location was not protected by a GFCI at either the outlet or the electrical panel. (c)M/V Omnisea, men's bathroom (state room deck) - The electrical outlets above the sinks at this location were not protected by GFCI's at either the outlet or the electrical panel. NOTE: One feasible means of abatement, among others, is to install receptacles or circuit breakers that are protected by GFCI's at each indicated location.
