Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to the hazard of electrical shock, burns or electrocution by
potential contact with
energized, but ungrounded electrical appliances while in a wet or damp
location. The following
condition contributed to the existence of this hazard:
a)F/T Seafisher: The 105 volt electrical outlet located approximately 14
inches from the
Galley sink indicated an open ground when tested with IDEAL circuit tester
61-035 and
the outlet was not protected by a Ground-Fault-Circuit-Interrupter (GFCI)
at the source
and/or at the electrical panel.
Note: One feasible and useful method of abatement, among others, would be
to locate and repair
the grounding connection and then replace the old receptacle with a GFCI
type
receptacle.
